Bears vs. Commanders: Predictions, Best Bets & Odds for Thursday Night Football

Week 5 of the NFL season begins in earnest Thursday night when the Bears meet the Commanders for what should be an interesting tackle football game.

The Bears are 0-4 on the season, and DraftKings lists Chicago as a +6.0 away underdog when they travel to Washington to take on the 2-2 Commanders.

Who will win this important NFC clash? Find out when we share our best bets for the Bears and Commanders on Thursday, October 5.

Bears Woes Continue

The Chicago Bears are a mess. They’ve dropped each of their first four games, but in Chicago’s defense, the offense has run into some darn good defenses.

The Bears’ offense is 4th in giveaways, and QB Justin Fields has spent more time discussing what he will do rather than delivering the goods. Fields has the 28th-best QBR rating in the league, and his offense scores a below-average 18.8 points per game.

Fields threw four TD passes with an interception last week against a bad Denver defense, but Fields has committed six turnovers this season and has been sacked 17 times through his first four contests, including four times last week.

The Bears defense is one of the worst in the NFL. They are 28th in total yards allowed and surrender the second most points per game this season. They’ve allowed 27 points or more in each of their four matchups this season and are 28th in the league in takeaways.

Commanders Two-Game Losing Streak

Washington has dropped two straight, but their losses were to Buffalo and Philadelphia. The Commanders are coming off an overtime away loss to the Eagles, and they’ll want to come out flying against Chicago.

Washington QB Sam Howell has been hot and cold this season. He’s thrown more interceptions than TD passes but has the 18th-best QBR in the league. He’s already been sacked 24 times this season but somehow has thrown for 961 yards with four scoring strikes. Howell is the 2nd leading rusher behind rookie Brian Robinson Jr. and has four wideouts with over 100 receiving yards.

The Commanders’ defense allows the fourth-most points per game but has the 17th-most takeaways. Washington is 22nd in yards allowed and averages three sacks per game.

Bears vs. Commanders Best Bet

Unibet Illinois has the total set for 44 points (109), and while several other sportsbooks have the same number, Unibet has the best price, and my best bet for this game is Over 44 points (-109) at Unibet.

Bears QB Justin Fields has been a mess at times, but he’s coming off his best game of the season, and he is dangerous with his feet and sometimes even his arm. He’ll definitely have a turnover, but Fields has decided to let it fly. and he threw four TD passes and scampered for 25 against Denver, but he also rushed games of 47 yards and 59 yards.

The Commanders’ defense hasn’t been very effective, but they do chase QBs, which could mean some additional rushing attempts that could lead to a TD. Fields has wideouts DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, and TE Cole Kmet making plays against a shaky Washington passing defense, allowing 1.5 passing TDs per game.

Howell and the Commander’s offense looks better in real life than on paper. Howell has been decent at times, but Washington has had a couple of good offensive games, including last week’s OT loss to Philly. The O-Line is a mess, but Howell has gotten the most from wideouts Terry McClaurin and Jahan Dotson, and they’ll be able to score against the soft Bears’ defense. Play the Over 44 (-109) at Unibet.
