Chicago is an +18.5 point away underdog when the two meet for Game 2 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Tip-off time is set for 3:00 pm ET, with the contest being televised on ABC.
Poor Shooting Night Chicago
The Sky shot themselves in the foot by shooting 33% from the field (24-72), including a 5-22 night from beyond the arc. This poor shooting was below their season average, and Interim head coach Emre Vatansever told reporters this after the loss.
“They took away a lot offensively,”interim coach/general manager Emre Vatansever said. “Their defense was on point. They were aggressive. They were physical, and we had a hard time getting into our offense.”
It was the lowest-scoring game for the Sky this season. Kahleah Cooper led Chicago with 15 points and told reporters after the game, “They threw a lot of different things [at me],” Copper said. “It was a lot. I also have to be disciplined, wait for screens, demand some screens, and make plays for my teammates.”.
Sky Guard Courtney Williams finished with nine points and 11 caroms and didn’t pull any punches after the loss, telling reporters, “We got our ass beat, I’m not going to lie to you,” Williams said. “But we have another one. I mean, we have to stay confident.”
Vegas Rolls Behind Gray
The Lady Aces had five players score in double digits. Courtney Gray paced Las Vegas with 20 points, Jackie Young scored 18, Kelsey Plum chipped in with 16 points, and reigning WNBA MVP A’Ja Wilson added 14 points with eight rebounds. Aces Head Coach Becky Hammon was happy with her team’s effort, telling reporters;
“The second and third effort was there tonight,”Hammon said.“Sometimes that can be missing in Game 33, but it was there tonight.”
Chicago vs. Las Vegas Betting Analysis
FanDuel Illinois lists the Aces as -18.5 point favorites to win Game 2. The total at multiple Illinois betting shops is 170.5 (-110), but Caesars Illinois has the best price on the vig for that total.
The season series went 3-0 to Las Vegas. The Aces’ highest winning margin was 13 points- the other two were decided by 12 points. Wednesday’s thrashing was an aberration, and I don’t expect Las Vegas to beat Chicago by 18.5 points.
Sunday is a must-win situation for the Sky, and I expect their veterans to step on the defensive end of the floor and not allow so many wide-open looks. Cooper will need to play like the All-Star she is and lead the team on both ends of the floor, and I believe she will. Take the +18.5 points and go with Chicago to cover the spread on Sunday. Play the Chicago Sky +18.5 (-115) at FanDuel.
